Frequently Asked Questions.

What is Streaming Media?
Streaming Media is the process of digitally transmitting audio/video data over the Internet from a media server to an end-users' PC. Once received by the pc it gets decoded and displayed on a monitor instantly, instead of having to wait for a file to download before viewing.

What is Live Internet Broadcasting?
Live Internet Broadcasting is the easiest and most inexpensive way to stream audio and video content to the world. Your live signal is relayed to Network211 and is broadcast over the Internet through your web site. On a live Internet broadcast, all end users experience the same content just like a traditional TV or radio station.

What is On-Demand Streaming?
Once you've uploaded your audio or video files to the On-Demand server, your content is played on request from your web page. Users have complete control of the stream and are able to fast forward, rewind and re-play the file as required, just like a DVD player!

What are some uses of On-Demand Streaming Media?
On-Demand archieves are perfect for creating a library of previously recorded messages. They also allow you to create a media rich web page with content specially created for your web audience. On-Demand training and seminars allow ministries to train people anywhere in the world, any time of day. With On-Demand Streaming Media you can put any audio or video material you create on your web site.

What is Stream Encoded Media?
Stream Encoded Media is your video or audio recordings processed through the Windows Media Encoder 9 to enable it to be efficiently streamed from a media server. All On-Demand Media must be Stream Encoded.

Do I need Special Equipment?
Yes, but you probably have most of it already.

  • You will need an adequate Internet Connection available at the location where video streaming is to orgininate. Broadband connection (Cable or DSL) is recommended. A dial-up connection may be enough for audio streaming, but is not recommended for live video streaming.
  • You will need a computer with audio and video inputs. This can be as simple as a USB webcam and a microphone connected to a sound card line-in jack, or as elaborate as a digital video camera connected to a Firewire port. The computer should be a Windows-based PC capable of running Windows Media Encoder 9.
  • You will need the Windows Media Encoder 9, a free download from Microsoft, available by clicking here. This encoder is needed both for Live Streaming and for On-Demand Streaming.
